Job description

Our client is a global leader in the biotech industry sector employing over 40,000 staff internationally with over 30 billion in revenue in 2023. This industry leader is investing heavily in its internal Biologics manufacturing operations. With the development of a state-of-the-art Drug Product Biotech and Device/Packaging manufacturing campus at their greenfield site in Germany, our client is now seeking a Senior Director of Finance, Procurement and Continuous Improvement. This next-generation Biotech manufacturing plant will be the organisation's most technically advanced Drug Product manufacturing operations once complete which constitutes a 2.5bn USD investment by the organisation.

This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the leadership team for the startup of a greenfield manufacturing site, and the successful candidate will help to build the organisation, the facility, and the culture to enable a successful startup GMP manufacturing operation and enable its ongoing success within the global network.

The Position

The Senior Director of Finance, Procurement and Continuous Improvement will sit on the senior leadership team allowing for input cross functionally, and influence over the wider operations of the facility in Germany. There would also be considerable opportunity for personal development as the organisation enters a period of positive change, growth and innovation.

This role would suit an experienced financial director or manufacturing site financial controller who is keen to make an impact, and has ambition to develop personally within wider global leadership network.

This exciting senior hire will be responsible specifically for:

  • Staff, lead, develop, and retain high calibre team that delivers on all aspects-value, quality, compliance and continuous improvement. Set and deliver on functional targets and continuously look to develop and improve both individually and as a team.

  • Maintain a safe working environment and support health, safety & environmental, corporate and site goals.

  • Operate as a key member in a cross-functional site leadership team to meet the sites objectives, providing a financial/business perspective on a broad range of issues to and for the lead team.

  • Develop and implement local financial, procurement, and CCI processes that are aligned and integrated with global processes.

  • Ensure timely and accurate accounting of site activity and adherence to corporate policies and practices, including the maintenance of financial controls (SOX) and documentation.

  • Facilitate the development, validation, and review of the site's financial plans, forecasts, and actual performance.

  • Procure materials through a team of procurement professionals to ensure reliable supply of all required materials while balancing costs and working capital investments.

  • Ensure the procurement function deliver value on the annual site spend it manages, while ensuring external services are provided to the site, ensuring no impact to production or supply.

  • Lead lean rollout, operational design, and integration across the site.

  • Ensure the site remains competitive on a large spend basis via long-term and short-term goals/strategies, driving a continuous improvement mindset, identify and deliver cost improvements.

  • Influence and challenge the site to set stretch goals for business plan/long range plan and then be a key lead team player on delivery.

The Person

In order to be considered for this Senior Director of Finance, Procurement and Continuous Improvement opportunity you will be a qualified accountant with extensive experience of driving financial performance within a manufacturing site. Extensive experience from within a similarly structured multinational manufacturing facility is essential.

Business fluency in English and German is essential.

Specific requirements for the successful candidate would include:

  • An ambitious professional with over 7 years' plus experience in a leadership role in finance within a blue-chip multinational manufacturing organisation.

  • A depth of experience in technical plant manufacturing finance including controllership, product costing, project management, reporting, and data stewardship.

  • You will be degree qualified, with relevant accounting qualifications. Any further tertiary education such as an MBA will be viewed favourably.

  • Pharmaceutical/Biotech experience is preferred, however a combination of experience and/or education will be taken into consideration if their experience is in wider manufacturing sector.

  • Extensive team leadership and people management experience with prior experience hiring, training, and accomplishing business objectives through teams and instilling a culture of excellence.

  • An ability to establish relationships and work cross functionally both within the site and the wider finance network.

  • Strong working experience and proficiency with systems (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and SAP).
