There is a growing R&D operation being developed here due to legal transfer and global harmonisation projects. An opportunity has arisen for an R&D Engineer - Diagnostics. This qualified and motivated will join a dynamic R&D team to support the development of novel in vitro diagnostics (IVD) and associated sample preparation devices. This individual will join a team to help plan, design, and conduct advanced studies. He or she will anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical problems. He or she will act as independent contributor or interact/coordinate with other groups and functions on project development and improvement.

The Position

  • Apply advanced scientific knowledge to projects. Conceive/design/plan/coordinate advanced independent and collaborative studies required for product development.
  • Complete assigned tasks for supporting product design, test and improvement as part of the product development process.
  • Design, prototype and test functional units by a hypothesis driven approach.
  • Under direction, develop and maintain documents to support design history file.
  • Ensure quality compliance by adhering to internal procedures and supporting quality management system documentation implementation.
  • Conduct business in a manner that will protect human health, safety and the environment by complying with all applicable EHS laws, as well as the clients global & technical standards.

The Person

  • Honours bachelor's degree (preferably masters) in mechanical/chemical/design engineering or an allied field is desired with relevant combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience and a proven track record in an industrial environment (ideally IVD).
  • Demonstrated experience in IVD product design, prototyping methods and building test environments ideally for in vitro diagnostics and sample handling/prep devices.
  • Hands-on experience with design, prototyping and testing of polymer devices for fluidic handling (ideally biological fluids/samples).
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacture practices, prototyping methods and scale-up technologies.
  • Willing to take on new and challenging assignments and to implement new ideas or alternative solutions.
  • Capable of adjusting to dynamic working environment and changing priorities, and of ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Understands statistical analysis.
  • Open and collaborative style.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and data presentation for data summary and technical reports.
